Throwback Thursday (Billboard #1's): Wilson...
“Hold On” was the debut single by Wilson Phillips, released in 1990. That same year, the song won the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year. At the Grammy Awards of 1991, the song received a nomination for Song of the Year, losing to “From a Distance” by Julie Gold and performed by Bette Midler.

Throwback Thursday (Billboard #1's): Lulu - To Sir...
“To Sir With Love” is the title song to the 1967 movie of the same name. Lulu was in the film with Sidney Poitier. The record was Billboard’s single of the year for 1967, having been #1 for five weeks in the USA. However in Lulu’s native UK, it was only ever a B-side to her #11 hit “Let’s Pretend.”
The lyrics were written by Don Black with Mark London...
Throwback Thursday (Billboard #1's): The Knack -...
“My Sharona” is the debut single by The Knack, released in 1979 from their album Get the Knack. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart where it remained for six weeks and was #1 on Billboard’s Top Pop Singles of 1979 year-end chart. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The riff of “My Sharona” was written by the...
Adele - Rolling In the Deep (The Soundmen Remix)
The Soundmen put out consistently dope tracks and remixes. Their latest venture is taking on Adele’s smash hit record “Rolling In Deep”. The remix has a distinctive 80/90’s Latin Freestyle vibe that is definitely sure to translate well to the dancefloor of your nearest nightclub.

Peter Bjorn & John - Second Chance (RAC Mix)
RAC remixes are always a welcome sight over here at Rob Gordon. This time the collective tackle Peter Bjorn & John’s “Second Chance” in celebration of the band’s newest album, Gimme Some, which dropped this past week on Startime International.

Fenech Soler - Demons (Alan Wilkis Remix)
Alan Wilkis was recently tapped to remix British electropop band Fenech Soler’s newest track “Demons”. Alan’s remix is a little different than what I’m used to hearing from him. It’s a lot slower and gritter than the fun, happy electropop I’ve come to know. Regardless, it’s still a great track.

Justice - Civilization
Now that it’s being used for the “All Adidas” campaign, you had to figure that it wouldn’t take long for Justice’s “Civilization” to get leaked to the interwebs. Well, allow me to share with you the return track by those wacky synth loving, mixer EQ knob turning, leather jacket wearing Frenchies.

Jim Jones - Perfect Day (Clinton Sparks x DJ Snake...
Clinton and DJ Snake did the damn thing with Jimmy’s newest single. Rarely do I feel that a remix is better than an original record, however Clinton’s vocal additions as well as the Snake produced beat take “Perfect Day” from a decent radio joint to hit record status.

Hodgy Beats - Mystery
While Tyler and the currently missing Earl Sweatshirt get most of the credit as the superstars of OFWGKTA, Hodgy Beats is quietly killing every track he spits on. ”Mystery” is just a flat out ill record complete with an incredible Moody Blues sample.
My only complaint is that this record needs a better mix. The flutes are entirely too distracting.

TV On The Radio - Caffeinated Consciousness
Somehow this track slipped through the cracks in my daily interweb scanning, but I guess it’s always better to post good music late rather than never. ”Caffeinated Consciousness” was released as a free download a few weeks ago and is the first single from TV On The Radio’s upcoming album Nine Types of Light.

Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang (White Noise Dubstep...
I’m struggling to find where the “dubstep” is in this remix. There’s some dubstep-ish sounding stuff around the 3:00 mark, but that’s about it. This is what happens when folks think a certain genre of electronic music has become the “next thing”. They just use the term with no regard for what it actually means. Dope remix regardless, although I think...
Adele x Gilbere Forte' - Set Fire To The Rain...
With a little help from Twice As Nice, Gilbere Forte’ is going in over Adele’s latest hit “Set Fire To The Rain”. It was only right for Mr. Forte’ to put is own twist on the 21 track, as he becoming known for remaking classic European tracks. Gilbere continues the theme of the original track, canvassing his own story with deep meaning and palpable symbolism.

Lil Wayne ft. Rick Ross - If I Die Today

Friendly Fires - Live Those Days Tonight
Earlier today, Friendly Fires leaked “Live Those Days Tonight”, which is their first track off their upcoming album, Pala. Pala features appearances from the Harlem Gospel Choir on the song “Hurting” and Holy Ghost’s Alex Frankel, who guests on “True Love”. The album is due out on May 16th on XL Recordings, who in my humble opinion, has the best roster...

MSTRKRFT - Back In The USSA
Admittedly, I’ve always looked at MSTRKRFT as the poor man’s Justice. Ironically, with Justice making their way back into people’s consciousness with their new single being used in the Adidas campaign, MSTRKRFT is also re-establishing themselves with the synth loving masses with some new track releases.
Their latest, “Back In The USSA” samples video game laser gun...
Mixtape: Pusha T - Fear of God
Pusha finally dropped his highly anticipated mixtape, Fear of God, today. I’ve avoided listening to the internet leaks over the last couple weeks so I could check it out in it’s entirety. So now that it’s out, and I have a 2 hour train ride ahead of me, that’s exactly what I shall do.

Throwback Thursday (St. Patrick's Day Edition): U2...
“Sunday Bloody Sunday” is the opening track from U2’s 1983 album, War. The song was released as the album’s third single on March 11, 1983 in Germany and The Netherlands. The track is noted for its militaristic drumbeat, harsh guitar, and melodic harmonies. One of U2’s most overtly political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of The Troubles...

The Dropkick Murphy’s “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” was originally written by the folk singer Woody Guthrie with the music later written and performed by the band for their 2005 album, Warriors Code.

Christian Rich - Good Luck Chuck
“Good Luck Chuck” is definitely a change from what I’ve come to expect from Christian Rich, a duo who have produced tracks for the likes of Lil’ Kim and The Clipse. The track seems much more Sweedish House Mafia, than the Hip Hop leaning trends of their past (see: The Decadende w/ Mick Boogie & Clinton Sparks). Either way, the track bangs and is more than ready for...

I honestly had no idea that The Human League was still a group, but I guess Philip Oakley has kept the band together in one form or another since the late 70’s. Their newest single, “Never Let Me Go”, was released earlier this month off their album, Credo, which is set to drop on March 21st. It’ll be the band’s first album of new material in a decade.

Alex Metric and Steve Angello have paired up with the legendary Ian Brown of The Stone Roses on the updated version of their club smash “Open Your Eyes”, which will be released on 1st May 2011 via Postiva/Virgin Records.
They originally released the instrumental through Beatport at the end of January and it has been killing it ever sense. I’m assuming this version will breathe new life...

Walking into the SRC office, there’s a very serious, almost tense feeling in the air. Not tense in the sense of angry or uncomfortable, but focused. No one is looking to joke around or play games. They are there to get a job done. This is an attitude that is visibly shown on the face of their leader Steve Rifkind. Steve has been in the music business since he was a kid....

Mixtape: Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra
Every rap crew needs an R&B dude, Death Row had Nate Dog, Rocafella had Christion, Wu Tang had O.D.B. (kidding), and Odd Future has Frank Ocean. Late last week, Frank released his mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, which is a blend of solid R&B leaning tracks and, of course, swag.

Nobody on the blogosphere seems to know exactly what this track is slated for. Mixtape? Album? Nobody knows. ”We Back Soon” is an alright, laid back track. Nothing lyrically mind blowing, but if your a Weezy fan, I’m sure you’ll like it.

Adele vs. Jay-Z vs. Biggie- Rolling In The Deep...
I’m typically averse to “mashups” these days, but I like what Voodoo Farm did with Adele’s hit record. The Brooklyn based remixer put his own spin on the record as well as adding Jay-Z’s verse from “Encore”, intertwined with Biggie’s “Nasty Boy” verse that really fits this remix well.
